Aspirin
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of OTC Aspirin medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Artificial Reproductive Technologies
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of Artificial Reproductive procedures to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
To qualify as potentially eligible, procedures must be intended to overcome an inability to have children due to medical reasons and are performed on you, your spouse or your dependent. Eligible medical expenses include (but are not limited to):
Fertility exams
Artificial insemination (intracervical, intrauterine, intravaginal)
In-vitro/In-vivo fertilization

Antihistamines
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC Antihistamines is an eligible medical expense.
Antibiotics, topical
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC antibiotic medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Anti-Itch
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC Anti-Itch medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Anti-Gas
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC Anti-Gas medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Anti-Fungal
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC Anti-Fungal product is an eligible medical expense.
Anti-Diarrhea
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC Anti-Diarrhea medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Anesthesiology
Anesthesiology fees are eligible medical expenses
Analgesics (painkillers), Antipyretics (fever reducers)
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTCAnalgesics (painkillers) or Antipyretics (fever reducers) medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Ambulance Service
The fee paid for ambulance services is an eligible medical expense.
Alternative Healers or Treatments
Non-traditional healing treatments provided by professionals may be eligible if provided to treat a specific medical condition. The treatments must be legal and the expenses do not qualify if the remedy is a food or substitute for food that the person would normally consume in order to meet nutritional requirements. Drugs and medicines recommended by alternative healers to treat a specific medical condition also can qualify as medical care, however as of December 31, 2010 a health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for these treatments to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Alopecia Treatment (Baldness)
Alopecia is a Medical Condition resulting in the loss of hair from the body or head that can lead to baldness. A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of a Alopecia treatment to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement. This condition can also be attributable to normal male pattern baldness. Treatment for this is not eligible if the sole purpose is to enhance appearance.
Allergy Treatment Products
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of a alergy treatment products to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement. If the product could be owned even without allergies (such as a pillow or vacuum cleaner), the expense is generally not an eligible expense.
Alcoholism, Drug Addiction Treatment
The cost of treatment at a center for alcohol or drug addiction is an eligible medical expense. This includes meals and lodging provided by an inpatient center during treatment.
Air Conditioners/Air Purifiers
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of a portable or permanent unit to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Adaptive Equipment
Adaptive equipment for a major disability, such as a spinal cord injury, can be reimbursed.To qualify, the item must be used to relieve or alleviate sickness or disability. Depending on the nature of the item, only amounts above the cost of the regular version of the item will qualify. Includes various items that assist individuals in performing activities of daily living (e.g., feeding, bathing).
Acupuncture
The cost of acupuncture is an eligible medical expense.
Acne
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC acne medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Acid Reducers, Antacids
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC Antacids medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Abortion
You can include in medical expenses the amount you pay for a legal abortion.
Abdominoplasty
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the procedure to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Note: The cost of an abdominoplasty such as a Tummy Tuck is not eligible if the sole purpose is to enhance appearance.
Adoption Fees
The fees you pay to an adoption agency that facilitates the process
Breathalyzer
The cost of both in-home and doctor’s office alcohol testing are eligible expenses.
Breast Reduction
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of a breast reduction to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Note: A breast reduction for the sole purpose of improving appearance is not an eligible expense.
Breast Reconstruction Surgery
The cost of breast reconstruction surgery following a mastectomy is an eligible medical expense.
Breast Pump Purchase or Rental
The cost to purchase or rent a breast pump is an eligible medical expense.
Breast Implants or Removal
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of breast implants or removal to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Braille Books and Magazines
For use by visually impaired persons, the cost of Braille books and magazines are eligible medical expense.
Note: The eligible reimbursable cost of Braille books and magazines is limited to the amount that exceeds the price for regular books and magazines.
Braces, Orthodontia
The cost of orthodontia care (including braces) is an eligible medical expense.
Bracanalysis Testing
The cost of diagnostic testing for genetic mutations that may include DNA collection is an eligible medical expense.
Boutique, Concierge, Practice Fees
The cost of monthly or annual fees to guarantee the availibility of a physician when needed as well as provide a newsletter and a 24/7 helpline is not an eligible medical expense, since the fee is paid regardless of wether medical care is needed or recieved. This is also commonly referred to as a retention fee.
Body Scan
The cost of a body scan (e.g., an MRI,PET,CAT) is an eligible medical expense.
Blood Storage
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of blood storage to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement. Storage fees should not exceed six months.
Note: As long as a medical condition is present, the cost to store blood would be an eligible medical expense. This included the cost of collecting, freezing and storing umbilical cord blood.
Blood Pressure Monitor
The cost of a blood pressure monitoring device is an eligible medical expense.
Blood Donor Fee
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of blood donation to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Note: A fee associated with blood donation, when the blood is for the subsequent use by the participant, spouse or eligible dependent, is an eligible medical expense.
Bleaching or Whitening Teeth
The cost of bleaching or whitening teeth is not an eligible medical expense.
Birthing Coach
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of a professional birthing coach who provides medical care for the mother or child to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Birth Control RX
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC birth control product or treatment such as the Morning-After Pill or OTC emergency contraceptive which can help prevent a pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure or spermicides would be considered an eligible medical expense.
Birth Control
The cost of prescription birth control (such as IUD, diaphragm, pill, Norplant, etc.) is an eligible medical expense. Also amounts paid for OTC products and devices (such as condoms, etc.) are eligible medical expenses.
Bed Wetting Alarms
Covered for children 5 years of age or older.
Bandages, Band-Aids
The cost of bandages is an eligible medical expense.
Baldness
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of the medical treatment to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Note: Treatment for normal male pattern baldneess is not eligible if the sole purpose is to enhance appearance.
Back Brace
Both Rigid (Hard) and Soft (Elastic) Back Braces are eligible medical expenses.
Baby Formula
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity showing the infant requires special dietary requirements, and a specific baby formula is recommended to treat an illness or disorder to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Note: If your baby requires a special formula to treat an illness or a disorder, the difference in cost between the special formula and routine baby formula can be reimbursed.
Crystalens
Artificial lens implants used to treat cataracts is an eligible medical expense.
Crutches
The purchase or rental of crutches is an eligible medical expense.
Crown, dental
The cost of a crown is an eligible medical expense.
Counseling
The cost of counseling for a medical condition is an eligible medical expense.
Cosmetic Treatment
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost cosmetic surgery for improving a deformity arising from, or directly related to, a congenital abnormality, personal injury or disfiguring disease to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Corneal Ring Segments
The cost of these devices implanted in the eye to correct vision is an eligible medical expense.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
The cost of the breathing therapy known as CPAP is an eligible medical expense.
Contact Lenses and Supplies
Contact lenses needed to correct vision, amounts paid for the purchase of contact lenses (including shipping and handling fees) are eligible medical expenses.In addition, amounts paid for contact lens solution, supplies and exams (including fittings) are also eligible expenses.
Note: Amounts paid for cosmetic contact lenses (such as to change eye color without vision correction) are not eligible medical expenses.
Condoms
The cost of condoms are an eligible medical expense.
Compression Socks, Stockings
The cost of compression socks, also known as ante-embolism socks and stockings which assist with circulation in the feet and legs is an eligible medical expense.
Companion Animal
Expenses to train or procure any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to you, your spouse or dependent with a disability is an eligible expense.
Colon Therapy, Colon Hydrotherapy, Colonics
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of colon therapy to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Cold Sore and Fever Blister Treatments
A health care professional must prescribe OTC drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC cold sore or fever blister product is an eligible medical expense.
Note: Medicated and non-medicated lip balms are not an eligible medical expense.
Cold Medicines
A health care professional must prescribe OTC drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC cold medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Cold and Hot Packs
When used for medical purposes, amounts paid for cold and hot packs are eligible medical expenses.
Note: Cold and hot packs are not eligible medical expenses when used for other purposes such as to keep beverages hot or cold.
COBRA Premiums
Insurance premiums are eligible medical expenses for an HSA in only the following situations: COBRA continuation of health care coverage; health care coverage while receiving unemployment compensation; long-term care (LTC) coverage only up to the annual amount allowed by age; and for those age 65 or older, insurance premiums for health care coverage including Medicare Parts A,B and D.
Note: Insurance premiums are not eligible medical expenses for an HSA for those age 65 or older, if the premiums are for Medicare supplement policies such as Medigap.
Co-payment (co-pay)
A medical copayment is an eligible medical expense.
Co-Insurance
A coinsurance charge for medical care is an eligible medical expense.
Clinic
The cost of medical treatment at a health clinic is an eligible medical expense.
Circumcision
The cost of circumcision is an eligible medical expense.
Cholesterol Testing
OTC portable blood test systems and test strips are an eligible medical expense.
Chiropractor
The cost of chiropractor services is an eligible medical expense.
Chiropody (a chiropractic foot doctor)
Amounts paid to a chiropodist (a chiropractic foot doctor) is an eligible medical expense.
Childbirth Classes/Lamaze
Class time instruction related to childbirth (including breathing and relaxation techniques, stages and phases of labor, labor and delivery procedures, birthing positions, movie depicting vaginal and cesarean delivery and cesarean discussion) is an eligible medical expense.
Note: Documentation must clearly show the portion of the Lamaze classes dedicated to childbirth. Reimbursement will be just for that portion. Expenses are eligible only for the woman who is having the child. Expenses for the spouse or partner attending the class with the pregnant woman are not eligible.
Childbirth
Amounts paid to a physician or licensed midwife for delivery charges are eligible medical expenses. Additonal costs related to certain maternity items such as products that reduce discomfort associated with pregnancy (i.e. maternity girdle and maternity support belts) are also eligbile expenses.
Carpal Tunnel Wrist Supports, Braces
The cost of carpal tunnel wrist supports is an eligible medical expense.
Car Modification
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of car modifications such as hand controls and other special equipment installed in a car including installation costs to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Note: The cost of operating a specially equipped car is not an eligible medical expense.
Capital Expense
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of installing equipment in the home to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
A capital expense (permanent or portable) can be reimbursed if its purpose is to provide medical care for you, your spouse or dependent. Expenses for improvements or special equipment added to your home can be reimbursed if the main purpose of the item is medical care. How much is reimbursed depends on the extent to which the expense permanently improves the property and whether others benefit.
Note: The amount paid for the improvement is reduced by the increase in the value of your home or property. The difference between the cost of the improvement minus the increased value equals the eligible expense. Also see Publication 502 at www.irs.gov for more information including a worksheet.
Durable Medical Equipment (DME)
The cost to purchase or rent durable medical equipment is an eligible medical expense. Examples of eligible items include:
bed wetting alarm
blood pressure kit
crutches
hearing aid
medical alert equipment
adaptive equipment that assists with daily living activities such as bath chairs, wheelchairs or bedside toilet.
Drug Overdose Treatment
The cost of treatment for a drug overdose is an eligible medical expense.
Drug Addiction
Eligible expenses include inpatient treatment, outpatient care and transportation expenses associated with attending outpatient treatment.
Note: If the treatment is court-ordered, then a letter of medical necessity will be required.
Doulas
If the doula who provides medical care for the mother or child is a licensed health care professional who renders medical care, then their fees can be reimbursed. However, a health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of a Doula to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Doctor Fees
The cost of doctor fees are an eligible medical expense.
Discount Programs for Prescription Drugs
Costs associated with membership fees to participate in a discount drug program are not an eligible expense.
Diathermy
The cost of diathermy used to destroy abnormal cells or as a form of physical therapy is an eligible medical expense.
Diapers, Diaper Service
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of diapers and diaper service to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Diaper Rash Creams
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC diaper rash cream is an eligible medical expense.
Diagnostic Tests and Procedures
Amounts paid for diagnostic services are eligible medical expenses
Diabetic Shoes
If used to treat or alleviate a specific medical condition, only the excess cost of the specialized shoes over the cost of regular shoes will qualify. However, a health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of diabetic shoes to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Diabetic Equipment and Supplies
Amounts paid for diabetic equipment and supplies are eligible medical expenses.
Dermatology
Amounts paid to a dermatologist for a medical condition such as acne are eligible medical expenses.
Note: Precedures soley for the enhancment of appearance such as botox are not eligible expenses.
Denturist
Amounts paid to a denturist for the treatment of a dental condition related to the making and fitting of dentures are eligible medical expenses.
Dental Emergency Kit
A dental emergency kit used for the temporary repair of loose caps or lost fillings is an eligible medical expense.
Dental Care
Amounts paid for dental care (X-rays, fillings, extractions, dentures (artificial teeth), caps, crowns, fluoride treatments, implants, non-cosmetic veneers etc.) and orthodontia are eligible medical expenses.
Note: Expenses for cosmetic dentistry are not covered.
Dehumidifier
The cost of a dehumidifier is not an eligible medical expense.
Defibrillator
The cost of a defibrillator is an eligible medical expense.
Deductibles
Deductibles are eligible medical expenses.
Decongestant
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC decongestant medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Eye Care and and Devices
The cost of eye exams, eye patches, reading glasses including OTC reading glasses, prescription eyeglasses (including prescription sunglasses), tinting of prescription eyewear, prescription goggles and prescription safety glasses are eligible medical expenses. In addition, repairs to Eyeglasses, Prescription Sunglasses, Reading Glasses and Prescription Goggles/Safety Glasses are all eligible medical expenses.
Note: Non-prescription sunglasses, eyeglasses needed for vision correction or reading as well as warranties for repairs and replacements are not eligible medical expenses.
Experimental Medical Services
The cost of experimental medical services are an eligible medical expense as long as they are administered by a health care professional to treat a medical condition.
Experimental Drugs
The cost of prescription and legally-obtained experimental drugs for medical care is an eligible medical expense
Expectorant
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC expectorant is an eligible medical expense.
Exercise Equipment, Exercise Program
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of exercise equipment or program to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Note:The cost of exercise equipment or an exercise program for improvement of general health is not an eligible medical expense.
Excess Skin Removal
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of excess skin removal to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Note: Removal of excess skin soley for the enhancement of appearance is not eligible.
Erectile Dysfunction Treatment
The cost for the treatment of erectile dysfunction is an eligible medical expense.
Epsom Salts
Eligible when used as a Soaking Aid for sprains and bruises.
Emergency Medical Alert Device
The cost of an emergency medical alert device such as Life Alert is an eligible expense.
Egg and Sperm Donor Fees
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of egg and sperm donor fees to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Egg and Embryo Storage Fees
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of eggs and embryo storage to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Educational Classes
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of an educational class specific to a medical condition such as learning to manage diabetes or learning Braille to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Ear Plugs
The cost of ear plugs is an eligible expense.
Funeral Expenses
Funeral expenses are not an eligible medical expense.
Foot Care
The cost of non-medicated foot care products is an eligible medical expense.
Note: A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of any OTC medicated foot care items are an eligible medical expense.
Flu Shot
The cost of a flu shot is an eligible medical expense.
Flavoring Added to Medication
The cost of adding flavoring to medication is an eligible medical expense.
First Aid Kit and Supplies
The cost of a first aid kit and any first aid supplies is an eligible medical expense.
Fever Reducing Medication
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC fever reducing medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Fertility Enhancement and Treatments

Gastric Bypass Surgery Including Excess Skin Removal
The cost of surgical procedures for obesity treatment and the removal of any excess skin as a result of the treatment is an eligible medical expense.

Costs associated with home diagnostic tests or devices such as home pregnancy or blood presure monitors are eligible expenses.
Heating and Cooling pads
The costs associated for a heating pad or pack and cold pack is an eligible expense as long as it is used for medical purposes.
Heart Monitor
Costs for equipment to monitor the heart such as a heart rate monitor are eligible expenses.
Hearing Impaired Telephone
Costs associated with the purchase or maintenance of a telephone specifically for the hearing impaired is an eligible expense.
Hearing Aides and Batteries
The cost of a hearing aid and bateries is an eligible expense. Addtional costs related to the upkeep or maintenance of the hearing aid such as dehumidifier, sanitizer, and repairs are also eligible expenses.
Headache Medicine
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC headache medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Handicap Placards or License Plates
The cost for purchasing handicap placards or license plates is an eligible expense.
Hair Removal / Transplant
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of hair removal or transplant to be an eligible medical expense. Insurance Premiums
The cost of insurance premiums are generally not an eligible medical expense.

Long Term Care Services
Costs associated with long term care services that are limited to the medical portion of care are considered eligible expenses.

A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an lice treatment medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Lice Removal
Any fees paid to a lice treatment specialist for lice removal are an eligible expense.
Legal Fees
The costs assciated with legal fees specifically for the authorization of treatment for a mentally ill patient are an eligible expense.
Note: Legal fees for estate management, guardianship, or divorce are not eligible expenses.
Learning Disabilities
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of tuition/tutoring fees covering services rendered specifically for your child’s severe learning disabilities caused by mental or physical impairments to be an eligible medical expense. A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC laxative medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Late Fees
The costs associated with late fees as part of a medical payment are not an eligible expense.
Laser Eye Surgery
The costs associated with laser or LASIK eye surgey are an eligbile expense.
Lamaze Class
The costs associated with lamaza class are only eligible for the woman having the child.
Note: Expenses for the spouse or partner attending the class are not eligible
Lactation Devices or Aids
The cost associated with lactation devices or aids such as breast pumps or breast milk transport bags are eligible expenses.
Lactation Consultant
If required due to a woman experiencing lactation problems and cannot breastfeed her child, the expense of a lactation consultant is eligible.
Laboratory Expenses
The costs associated with laboratory fees are eligible expenses.
Mouth Wash
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of mouth wash to be an eligible medical expense. Include evidence of medical necessity by providing a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) that specifically identifies the recommendation and that the expense is for treatment of a medical condition with the request for reimbursement.
Mouth Guard

Mileage Expenses
The standard milelage rate for the use of an automobile while obtaining medical care is $0.17 for 2017.
Menstrual Care Products
Menstrual Care Products, such as tampons, pads, liners, cups, sponges, or similar products for menstruation are eligible expeneses for HSA and FSA.

Medical Services

Costs associated with the storage, maintenance, tranferring or copying of your electronic medical records are an eligible expense.
Medical Care Received Outside of U.S.
Costs associated with medical care received outside of the United States are eligible expenses.
Maternity Expenses
Maternity costs associated with the services of a physician or licensed midwife for the delivery of your child are eligible expenses.
Maternity Clothes
Maternity clothes are not considered an eligible expense.

Costs associated with nursing care of an otherwise healthy infant are not an eligible expense.

Costs associated with neurological care are an eligible expense.
Naturopathic Care
A health care professional must provide evidence of medical necessity for the cost of naturopathic care to be an eligible medical expense. Nasal Solutions or Sprays
A health care professional must prescribe Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs and medicines for you to be reimbursed for the expense. With a prescription, the cost of an OTC nasal medicine is an eligible medical expense.
Oxygen
Costs associated with the purchase of oxygen and any required equipment are eligible expenses.
Ovulation Monitor
Costs associated with an ovulation monitor are considered an eligible expense.
Over-the-Counter (OTC) Supplies and Medications
With the new provisions signed by the President in March of 2020, prescriptions are no longer needed to purchase Over-the-Counter Drugs and Medications with FSA and/or HSA funds.

Costs associated with an operation or surgery that is required for medical care is an eligible expense.
(Note: Procedure must be performed legally in the U.S. or in another country (if in another country, procedure must be considered legal in the U.S.))
Oncologist
Costs associated with an Oncologist are considered and eligible expense.
Occupational Therapy
Costs associated with occupational therapy are considered and eligible expense.
Obstetrician Services or Care

Shipping and Handling Fees
Cost of shipping and handling fees when associated for medical needs. This covers mail-order prescription service when delivered inside the United States.
Service Animal
The cost of purchasing or training a guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance for the disability of you, your spouse or tax dependent is an eligible expense.
Sales Tax
The cost of sales tax when associated with an eligible item is an eligible expense.
Travel Expenses and Lodging
Costs associated with transportation and lodging that is both essential to and primarily for medical care are an eligbile medical expense.
Note: Lodging expenses are limited to $50 per person up to a maximum of $100 per night. Addtional requirements for lodging include:

Viagra
The costs associated with a viagra are an eligible expense.
